  • AWSMCS Interview/Survey Thoughts

So I am part of a 3 year researcher-practioner-partnership with UT Austin called AWSMCS - Accelerating Women’s Success and Mastery in CS. Yesterday we were interviewed as part of their research project by a 3rd party for the second time. I jotted down my thoughts to help me respond to the questions. I want to expand upon those thoughts here.

  • Rest and Recovery - How I Use My Breaks

There’s this concept of rest that I have been exploring and learning more of with each passing year. Questions such as “What is rest?” and “How do I rest?” inevitably end up leading to “How do I maximize my rest and optimize it so I can spend less time resting but still feel rested?”.

  • 2020-2021 Summative Conference with Principal and Starting to Post Again

I realized I haven’t posted in awhile, but with the Spring semester being the busiest semester, wedding planning starting to kick into full gear, and taking a break from school after it ended, I couldn’t muster the motivation to spend time to make another post.

  • Developing an Interest in IT

My interest in the field of IT began almost 4 years ago in my current job as a Computer Science teacher.

  • Iris Keyboard Update

I ordered some Ergodox tenting legs around with the plan of attaching them to my Iris keyboard to create a more ergonomic typing experience. However, I realized I could not just attach these directly onto the mid-layer - there was no way the legs would stay in!

  • Another Student Brag Sheet

Another semester, another student brag sheet. My students are pretty awesome.
One thing I want to brag about is my Independent Study students personal projects. All of them have worked diligently on their projects throughout this semester. Some of them are continuing their projects onto the next semester while others are brainstorming new projects over the break. Excited for all of them.

  • Student on the Curb - Thanked Me

I walked outside on Monday to a beautiful day. I saw one of my students sitting on the curb. I said “Hi _____! What are you doing?” He told me he was waiting for his mom to pick him up. We struck up a brief conversation about the weather and being picked up. I thought nothing more of the conversation.

  • Quick Brag Sheet

Applied for a scholarship for a community college class and asked a colleague to write a recommendation for me. Here is my brag sheet.

  • Pre-Observation Meeting with Principal

I had my pre-observation meeting with my principal this past Friday. Right now it is Sunday and I am writing this on a mattress on the floor of my friend’s place in Austin. Weather is cloudy, cool (low 60s), and not humid. Wondering if weather affects what/how I write which is why I am including it here.

Will probably update this infrequently, just as I randomly look up colleges.

  • CSTA Houston Meeting

I went to my first CS4TX Houston Meeting (CSTA Houston chapter). My first encounter with this organization was in 2018 when I went to the CSTA conference in Omaha, Nebraska. There I met the Vice President Henry Ramirez and together we talked about building up something to rival that of Arkansas’ boisterous group.

  • UIL Practice Thoughts

We began our team UIL practice in January. My original reasons for only beginning in January were due to the fact students were still learning all the data structures and algorithms (time complexity) material during the first semester. Why should they be tested over things they haven’t learned yet - right? And yes, I still believe they should not be tested over things they haven’t leraned yet. But the team programming section - they are still able to do that.
